A Not So Casual Weekend
« on: August 30, 2015, 12:40:39 am »
In a cafe just three blocks from Canterlot High, a girl with natural beige skin, and coral-red hair with a ponytail resting over her shoulder, sits at a table next to the window. Agilene rests her head down on the cold, hard surface, exhausted after hours of chores in the school. Of all the days of the week, it had to be saturday. Raising herself up and taking a long sip of her frappuccino, she began recalling the dozens of crates she had to carry up flights of stairs to the school's renovated computer lab. Things would not have ended this way if she didn't have the glorious idea of starting a brawl in the middle of the cafeteria over spilled milk from a carton on her favorite sky-blue vest, white tank top, and jeans. In fact, it should have been the jerk basketball team captain carrying the crates, since he spilled the milk. But he had practice on the weekend, so obviously he should be let off the hook. Thankfully, she had a second set of those same clothes which she decided to wear today.

Finishing her drink, Agilene tells herself what's done is done, and she can live the rest of the weekend forgetting about school. That would be easy, however, if the group of obnoxiously loud Canterlot High students weren't sitting behind her. What Agilene also notices is her and the students are the only customers in the cafe. It makes sense, though, since it is a weekend, and everyone else is probably having a good time somewhere else. She lets out a faint sigh, and turns to the window to focus on whatever interesting events are going on outside. Agilene finds there is a lack of vehicles driving by. It is quite unusual in this town at this time, but she simply shrugged it off as nothing. Maybe it's a slow day for businesses. At least there are people walking by, but it's the usual homeless person asking for change, and couples casually walking hand in hand. Just as she focused on them, a white van pulls over in front of an insurance building across the street. It did not seem like anything special, but what strikes her as odd is the faint green glow on the window of the driver's seat. But like the lack of cars, she did not mind it much. The van's glow could simply be her imagination or the driver having custom interior lighting. Since looking out the window doesn't interest her, gazing up at the news on TV might.

"Good god, Aloe, I told you like 20 times, mom says I have to day off today from working at the spa because I am volunteering to host a bake sell at the school later today.... What? No I'm not sorry I didn't wake you up in time to sign up for that. You felt the need to take a 3 hour bubble bath at 2 AM and didn't get any sleep.... Ugghhhh... I'll see you this evening... Yeah I will remember... If you can bring home the one that smells like sweet honey.... Love you... bye.." Lotus ordered a frap and sat down at the table next to Agilene and began drinking while scrolling through the social media posts on her phone, occasionally making sure nothing was spilt on her white business-like dress that matched the white headband in her hair. There was a blue belt matching her skin that was around her stomach. She read a post, then glanced left at the mare, before returning to her phone. Ohhh so that's who started the fight the other day. She took a sip and giggled to herself a little bit.

Fleur Dis Lee strolled in through the door, ringing the bell before scanning the room. Her face lit up when she aw Lotus. After ordering a coffee, she added the milk and sugar and sat across from her.
"Hi! I'm so glad we could meet this weekend." Fleur gave her a cheery smile. "Ugh, I honestly hate going to Crystal Prep Academy, buuuttttt my parents live closer to them and feel like I need to go to a private school." The teenager fixed her uniform (depicted in her avatar) a bit. "I just came from a school event where I had to wear this uniform... I kind of like it though."

So far, the news showing on the cafe TV made Agilene yawn: attempted robbery at a bank next to the mega mall. Luckily, the criminal was caught, so it's nothing to worry about. Maybe they'll return for revenge, she thought. That is how it goes in some movies after all. The next point brought up were building lights turning on by themselves last night when they should be off, and no one was inside at the time. Unusual, but it could be a coincidence; perhaps a bunch workers had secret late night shifts?

Though uninteresting, having the sound of the news kept Agilene busy for a moment. However, it was later interrupted by a girl who entered the cafe speaking on her phone. It was rude, but Agilene could not resist eavesdropping on her conversation. What she picked up were mentions of bubble baths, school, and a... bakery sale? Her face lit up as if an idea rolled into her head. All those hours moving crates in the school, and she totally forgot about the bakery sale happening later. However, the thought of showing up after yesterday's fight with the team captain made her hesitant to attend. With that in mind, she concluded that going home would be the better choice.

When the girl on the phone sat next to Agilene managed to get a closer look at her. She was one of the girls Agilene would see working inside a spa on her way to the mall. Agilene also remembers seeing her around in the halls from time to time, but cannot remember her name. A sinking feeling fell in her stomach at the embarassing idea of the spa girl being around during yesterday's dilemma in the cafeteria. Some weekend this was turning out to be. The last thing she wants was to be talked down by a possible witness, so it was time for her to leave.

Preparing to get up from her seat, the bells of the cafe door rung. Entering the shop was a beautiful, pink haired girl in Crystal Prep uniform. Agilene rolled her eyes at the sight of her. Private schools sort of drove Agilene the wrong way. It's the uniforms, and how the students seem so snobby. When the Crystal Prep girl arrived at the table where her and the spa girl sat, Agilene quickly grabbed her cup and stood. However, something felt off about the empty cup she held in her hand. There was a tickling feeling slowly moving across her thumb. She faced the cup and was surprised to find a spider crawling on her hand. Agilene's eyes widened, and she let out a yelp. Following  her scream, she sent the cup flying from her hand, and it flew towards the two girls next to her.

FLeur's eyes widened as she saw the empty cup flying directly at her. She dropped her own cup on the table in order to catch the one flying at her face. To her surprise, she actually caught it. Smirking at Aloe in a bragging sense, she handed it back to Agilene. "Goodness, watch yourself... are you alright?"

Lotus smiled but shook her head at her Crystal Prep friend before standing up as well.
"Did something happen? Why did you just throw a cup at her?"

"Gaaah" was all Agilene could let as her face went red from embarrassment. Of all the places she could have thrown that cup, it had to be them? She frantically wiped both hands on her sky-blue vest in hopes that the horrifying arachnid isn't on her anymore. Agilene faced Lotus and Fleur, "I apologize for that, um... Spa girl and Crystal Prep girl? What ever your names are." She stopped wiping, and began to ease her breathing. Relief, knowing the spider is certainly gone, filled her.

"Lotus Blossom..." The spa twin answered. "Well, i guess you might know my twin sister Aloe more... She's the popular one anyways..." Lotus mumbled.

"And... Fleur Dis Lee. Crystal Prep girl?... Ugh I hate being labeled as that. The least you could do is show some manners the next time you flip out and launch a cup at someone."

Agilene glared at Fleur with distaste, "I apologized, did I not? And if arachnids did not exist, none of this would not have happened." She tossed her bag behind her back, muttering silently to herself, "private school students. All the same, it seems." Agilene's expression transitioned from frustrated to neutral as she turned her attention to Lotus, "And I recognize you from the spa I pass by on some days."

"What was that?" Fleur stepped closer towards Agilene. " You should speak up sometimes. Maybe my 'private scool' ears are too sensative to your rude mouth."

Agilene's fists clenched at the response. Her eyebrows furrowed as she felt ready to either storm out of the cafe or knock something over. But seconds later, her clenched fists opened, and she exhaled as she told herself, Calm down, Agilene. Perhaps it is the stress of the chores at the school earlier that is getting you worked up. Do not end this like yesterday.

Providing a fake grin to Fleur, Agilene replied, "What was I thinking with that remark? It appears there is more to apologize for than a thrown cup. To be honest, this week has been stressful, so forgive me if I let out anger at the wrong place at the wrong time."

Fleur let out a sigh as well.
"Well, it's okay. Ce n`est pas grave. I do get a little sensative. Another reason why I hate going to that stupid school."

"Yes my family owns a spa. My sister and I work there most of the time..." She started to get worried that the two mares would begin fighting but let out a sigh when the crisis was averted. "Bad week? I can fix that. I'll give you a full, spa treatment for free if you'd like. the last thing I want to see is people stressed out. Fleur here is a weekly customer."

"I feel the same way, Fluer. My fondness for my school is paper thin. It does keeps me busy though, so that is a plus." Agilene faces Lotus, "And you are too kind. I will consider your offer, but I have other plans to attend to. I hear there is a bake sale happening at the school earlier, and I would like to attend." Sure, she decided not to go earlier, but it wouldn't hurt to at least check out the pastries. "Would you two be interested in joining?"
