A New Beginning
« on: July 17, 2015, 02:20:24 pm »
A pink alicorn approached the large double escorted by two crystal pony guards.
“It’s been awhile since I had free time to spare.”  She whispered to herself ruffling her wings
Cadance was excited though. She finally had enough time to spend in Canterlot visiting her aunt Celestia and her friends in Ponyville for fun rather than business. After a few knocks by the guards, the doors flew open as the princess strolled in with open wings.
“Princess Celestia, how have you been?” She lightly galloped to the front of the princess of the sun's throne and bowed.

Princess Celestia was sitting on her throne, wearily going through a large stack of scrolls. The ruler’s eyes were tired, and she stifled a yawn as she unfurled yet another document that needed going over. It sometimes seemed like her work was never done, but Celestia would never complain.

However, when the doors opened and Cadence entered, Celestia’s face lit up and she quickly put down the scroll she was reading. “Princess Cadence!” she said in greeting, getting up and making her way down to where her niece was. “I have been wonderful,” Celestia told her. “And how do you fare this fine day? To what do I owe this pleasure?"

Today has been great!" Cadance stood up straight and tucked her wings back in. "Well, my schedule has cleared up and I though I'd come to Canterlot to spend some time with you and Princess Luna. We never really have quality time to spend together. Always meetings or other official events." She leaned in to embrace Celestia.

“Excellent, excellent,” Celestia said. She smiled widely at Cadance’s news. “That’s wonderful!” She accepted Cadance’s embrace and hugged her tightly. “Spending time with my favorite niece is exactly what I need. How long will you be here?"

"For a couple of weeks. Shining Armor promised he'd take good care of the Crystal Empire and that he would let me know if there were any issues or emergencies." She let out a deep breath. Hugging her aunt gave her the most warming and most comfortable feeling she had felt in a long time. Especially after all of the stress she has been through in the past months. "I can't say that I'm not nervous, but I need to learn to trust him a bit with that kind of stuff." She put her smile back on. "I also want to eventually visit Twilight and her friends again. They're always very welcoming."

“I’m sure he will. Shining Armor is very capable,” Celestia reassured Cadence, finally releasing her. “Indeed they are. It warms my heart to see how close my most faithful student has grown to her friends.” She chuckled lightly, a warm and musical sound. “I wish I could visit them more often myself, but…” Her eyes strayed to the pile of scrolls, still waiting by Celestia’s throne. She looked back at Cadence and smiled. “However, those can wait. Tell me, you must be tired after the trip, do you need to rest?” She motioned to a set of doors leading off the throne room. “The castle has plenty of spare beds."

“A room would be lovely, but the trip was actually very quick… I’m not tired at all, unless you want to get some of your work done.” The princess glanced over at her papers. Her eyes shifted to a window that gave a magnificent view of the city. “Canterlot sure is beautiful.” She walked over to it.
“Today feels like the beginning of something special. It’s rare that I get vacation time. I just don’t know what to even do with it. I want to take advantage of every second."

“It can wait,” Celestia said simply. “You are more important.” She followed Cadance to the window. The sun hung high in the perfectly cloudless, azure sky, a fiery sentinel looking over the city. It’s rays caught the gilded rooftops and spires, making them look like molten gold and warming the cobblestone streets. Ponies went about their business, faint shouts echoing from the market district as merchants advertised their wares. It was a scene that Celestia saw every day, yet she never tired of the stunning view. “It is,” she agreed.

“As for being special…” Perhaps it was the arrival of Cadance, or just the feeling a beautiful day brings, but there was something in the air, an anticipation… “I know what you mean.” She draped one feathery wing over her niece and looked out over the city. Celestia let out a long breath that she suddenly felt she had been holding all day, and she slowly relaxed. “Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m taking advantage of this one,” she said with a smile.

Cadance leaned into Celestia a bit after the wing gesture. She was tired of acting all official in front of crowds and guests. Finally, some family time. "We should get started on our day of fun! What should we do first?" She asked with anticipation. "I know I have been here before, but every time its either a  meeting or a wedding."

Celestia hummed thoughtfully at Cadance’s question. “I do know of a rather wonderful donut shop in the heart of Canterlot,” she suggested. “Or, the royal gardeners have done an exquisite job with the gardens this year, if you’d like to see. And of course, we can always just go and mingle among my little ponies, or go see the Market.” She smiled at Cadance. “It is up to you. Hold on a moment… Day Planner!” She called out, and the doors opened to reveal a frazzled looking stallion, who approached Celestia and bowed. “Yes, Your Highness?” “Cancel everything I have on the schedule today,” she told him. She looked at Cadance. “I’m spending the day with family.”

Day Planner nodded and left, the doors swinging shut behind him. “There,” Celestia said. “Now I’m ready,” she held up her wing by her face and leaned in towards Cadence, as if she was about to tell her a secret. “Thank goodness you’ve come,” she said in a lowered voice. “I had precisely fourteen meetings today, and thanks to you, I just got out of them,” she said with a surprisingly mischievous grin. She tucked her wing back by her side. “So, what would you like to do?"

The princess gave her aunt a bit of a concerned look.
“I’d hate to force you to cancel your meetings. But… I guess long as they aren’t important.” Cadance returned to her excited state. “Ohh, I know that donut shop has some of the best around Equestria. The garden sounds wonderful too as well as the market. Maybe let’s try to visit all of those places! I also wanna get a back massage sometime today. All of this stress has made me so tense.” Her stomach rumbled a bit making the princess blush a little.
“Let's… maybe start at the donut shop. I hope the ponies all over Canterlot aren’t going to swarm us.”

Celestia smiled at Cadance’s excitement. “A back massage sounds lovely, let us add the spa to our list.” Her expression turned concerned at Cadance’s statement. “Stress? From the strain of leading the Crystal Empire? I’m sure that’s perfectly stressful enough, but nothing has happened, has it? Because you know I’m always here to help.”

Her face cleared and she let out another musical chuckle as she heard the pink alicorn’s stomach growl. “That sounds like a wonderful idea.” She sighed. “We can hope. Unfortunately, I don’t get as much time as I wish to be out on the streets, so it may cause some ruckus. Shall we go?” Tilting her head towards the door, she started heading out.

"Nothing that threatens the life of the Crystal Ponies... Just all the planning, the festivals I have to prepare, world leaders coming to visit. These past few months have been busier than usual." Cadance rolled her eyes a little. "But, I got it all taken care of earlier than planned. I want to hear about how you have been doing on the way there." She nodded at Celestia before heading out the door. She didn't have to worry about emergency meetings or random paperwork being delivered. IF anything goes wrong, Shining Armor will contact me... I hope nothing is wrong. What if he sleeps in? What if theres a huge fire and I can't make it back in time? Cadance suddenly got nervous again.

Celestia nodded as she listened to Cadance. “It sounds like it's a good thing you are getting a break. As for me, things have been going well. Our alliance with Yak Yakistan has been finalized as of a few weeks ago, thanks to Twilight Sparkle and her friends. Everything in Canterlot has been going smoothly, some minor property disputes have been resolved and the city is as vibrant as ever.” They reached the castle gates and passed between the pair of guards. “This year’s Canterlot Garden Party was last month and an enormous success, and- Cadance?”

She recognized the crystal princess’s nervous expression. Celestia stopped in her tracks, facing Cadance and putting one hoof on her shoulder. “Cadance. Listen to me. Everything will be fine. You rule a beautiful, stable kingdom with a practiced hoof, alongside a fine young stallion who I have the utmost confidence in. It will not fall if you are away for a short while.” She smiled, removing her hoof. “Now forget your worries and let’s have some fun!"
