*Realises I have a red and black OC*
:(
In all seriousness, I have had some experience with RPing, most of the time I don't even bother mentioning about OP OC's. What we are trying to make is a fun RPing community and having a filter could go against what we are trying to do. I suggest that we just post in the character thread stuff like no Mary Sue's, no OP characters stuff like that. That way people won't feel as though they are rejected after posting a bio, all we can do is hope that people use common sense and actually listen so then we won't have any issues.

To be fair, I'm half a sleep so take my 2 bits with a grain of salt if you wish

Right, right. I'm pretty sure the guidelines already say no Mary Sue's, so hopefully we're good there. I get what you're saying in general as well, I just wanted to be sure. As for your own OC, my list is only a problem is the character is like, all of them. While that particular color combination might be a bit hard on the eyes, yours is a little more mellow, so that's not een really an issue; Broadshield passes my standards. XD So yeah, I guess that settles that topic.

I know this one is totally full of personal bias, as there's nothing I hate more then a bad, overpowered, or cliche OC. Even so, I thought the idea might have so merit, so I'm posting it. Should an admin have to check an OC or new character out before they start posting? It would certainly help keep the number of garbage OCs to a minimum, but at the cost of possibly hurting some people who actually thought their OC's were good, like a shocking number of red and black alicorn, friends with the mane 6, saved the world a dozen times, OC owners.

I'm on an anger-fueled rant at this point. What do you guys think?

Octavia sniffled, trying to stop crying.

"No, I just... Why does life have to be so unfair? I gave up my dream, my education, everything, to make money to save my sister. But all I can do is keep up with her regular bills and my own apartment, every time I start saving up money for her treatment, I get no contracts for two weeks, and I have to spend it just to survive! And the princess hasn't contacted me in ages, so I haven't even made a penny from her like I used to. How many months, how many months is it until I go homeless, or my sister dies? That's what I wonder, every time I count my savings. Why? Why can't I catch a break?" Octavia finished, practically yelling at this point, tears streaming down her face. She didn't care who this pony was, or what she would think of Octavia after, she needed to get it all off her chest.

"200?!" Octavia responded in disbelief. She was paid 375 for the whole deal, of which 75 was supposed to be for the flowers. The flowers, plus two extra train trips, left her with a lot less left then she was hoping. She looked at the mare behind the counter, who was still smiling pleasantly. She had already said she was giving Octavia a deal, and she just couldn't bring herself to haggle or even ask for a lower price. Octavia simply stood, trying to figure out what to do. Her rent for the month, which was due in a week, was 500 bits. Her sister's medical bills were another 1000. even adding what she had saved up during the month, If she didn't make more money by the end of the week, there was no way she was going to be able to pay both. She felt her eyes water up at the thought, and she quickly turned away from the counter so the mare wouldn't see.

"Nope, that'll be all. What do I owe you?" Octavia asked, grabbing her coin-purse and opening it up.

Sorry for the latish reply. If you want to submit this site on EQD thats fine. I already did once, but hey if Octavia can make something and help us that isn't spamming places like comment sections go for it. As I said, refrain from posting this in the comments areas. Some people get annoyed and it also could lead dumb trolls here to mess with the site.

Sorry, yes, I was going to say something about the comments idea. Anyway, I'll see what I can do.

I sure like the idea a lot. I will be adding it after Celestia and I think of a good rule system. Pffft, there is going to be a lot of combat on this forum despite the spirit of the show. No need to keep anything PG here. Thanks for the idea though! I'm glad you all are suggesting things.

Yay! I did a helpful thing! If you have any other questions about stuff I didn't make clear, please don't hesitate to ask.

"Yes, that'll do just fine, thank you." Octavia said, watching as the mare nodded in response and opened the door behind her, heading into her greenhouse. Octavia looked around at the many different exotic flowers she had on display, amazed at some of the shapes and colors.

Book of Ideas / [Answered] Adding a dueling board
« on: August 08, 2015, 06:41:57 pm »
The general idea is fairly obvious, but I want to show the thought I've put into it anyway.

First, independent oh any of the other locations, like Ponyville or Canterlot, there'd be a whole new board, just for dueling. Inside, one user would set up the arena, and then users would challenge them until they decide who they want to duel. at that point, they fight. There can be multiple arenas and fight threads going at once, but a pony can only be in one fight thread at a time. The results of all fights are non-consequential, and have no affect on anything in the rest of the site. You can have a pony in a normal roleplay and a duel.

In the original post, you would need to describe the area in which the fight will be taking place, in a general sense. Like 'On the street by Sugarcube corner in Ponyville' or 'on the roof of a train headed to the crystal empire' Whatever they want, where ever they want, but if it's a place they make up, they're obviously going to need to be more detailed.

Also in the original post, you will need to describe your character, in a fighting sense. As in, EVERY attack type, form, and ability that they will be able to use in the fight. Nothing else can be used in the actual fight. This is for a few reasons. First, challengers will be able to tell if someone is just bragging about their overpowered OC. Second, that way you can't just keep inventing moves as you go so as not to lose. Finally, it allows challengers to make sure the fight will be fun, as in they won't send a changeling against a pony whose ability is to always kill changelings.

The challenger will have to detail their fighter in exactly the same way, for similar reasons.

Now, I've also thought about the flaws. First, fighting isn't really in spirit with the show, I know. But, it's for fun, and we know it's going to happen in other threads anyway. Second, somepony is going to have to lose. Somepony is going to have to decide, even if they don't really believe it, that they are going to lose. They don't have to know from the start, but eventually somepony will have to make that sacrifice, or this will never work out. Finally, what if for some reason this takes over the site? I don't think that's a problem, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Anyway, thoughts? Do you like the idea? No? Why? What would you change?

Those are pretty fair points, but I gotta ask, who are the other two that you are playing? I know Octavia, but who else? Just so we're all on the same page.

EDIT: Could we also mention about the RP site in the comment section? Not just post it on EQD?

Comment section? I'm not sure what you mean. I'm also playing Solar Flare in the Crystal Empire and Lunar Bloom in Ponyville.

Hello everyone! It's good to be here and to see a lot of potential in this site. Now of course we need more OCs and people to attend so recruitment is a priority. In the meantime we should work with what we have in terms of members by creating and continuing threads that introduces everyone so that there's some familiarity with each other. When enough relationships are established, we could start a basic mini arc with who is available. This will continue traffic to the site and also show new members that there's stuff going on. I myself am gonna finish my OCs bio then get an intro thread going. If anyone has arc ideas please say so, never too early to plan it out.

I agree with you, mostly. But I think you're over-estimating the number of players we have, I don't think we have enough people to get much of anything going yet. Let's put it this way. I'll call you active, since you seem to be. That means that we have nine active members. Two are admins, so let's take those out. That leaves seven. Seven's a reasonable amount, if it weren't for the fact that 3 of those are me, and there's no way I can use all three in one arc and keep up. That's means we can manage five, at best. That's assuming everyone who can play will play. I just don't think that's enough. I think we need to prioritize getting new members, then worry about playing among ourselves.

I don't know anyone else besides Choc that a bronies, perhaps put a call on EQD? Make art an other stuff for the website and hope it gets put on EQD. I can't ask anyone personally as I have no friends that are bronies besides Choc. Other than EQD, I don't know many other places where we can get attention. Maybe if we got a famous brony on the site though...

The funny thing is, this place WAS on EQD. That's why I'm here. I'm one of three...? Members who join because of that. For whatever reason, it didn't help, like, at all. We can try again, but I'm just not sure. I can probably make up an ad/banner for this place to send it along with info, but I'd need an admin's approval first. As far as famous bronies go, I used to have some connections, but it's been so long that they're probably a dead end.

Choc, you know I have nothing against you personally. I think it's a neat idea, and I'm always happy to support someone's dream OC. But there's something I've wanted to know since the very first time I read your bio. Why? Why do you feel it's necessary to create a new species? I mean, I just don't get it. For instance, a changeling who underwent a magic mutation could have all the same abilities and traits, except the difference is it wouldn't confuse us, it wouldn't create unnecessary complexity, and it's basically believable in the show's canon. So... Why?

Pretty self-explanatory. How are we going to keep this forum from dying out before it's even grown? We need more people. I've already invited, like, the three people I think might play, and I assume everypony else has as well. But, as we can all see, that's clearly not working. How are we going to draw in more of a crowd? What do we have going for us, what makes us better then other RP sites, and what problems do we need to fix? I've got answers of my own, but I want to hear everypony's thoughts.

"Not like us mares..." Octavia echoed, thoughts of her father coming to mind. She shook her head again, chasing away unpleasant memories.

"Right, back to business. Three dozen would be great, but if you don't have that many, then the closest multiple of three to that." She said, automatically doing the math for the nearest amounts in her head.

"Because I'm the same way when I meet new ponies, you just beat me to it this time. Anyway, let's see. White, and yes it's for a wedding. First my client has the nerve to tell me to get the flowers, then all he gave for directions to this place were, 'Oh, it's in Ponyville somewhere, you'll know it when you see it.' And that's probably because of the sign, not any distinguishing features. Ugh, stallions. Can't stand them." Octavia said, suddenly feeling very open with this mare, for whatever reason.  Which would probably turn out to be a mistake, but what's done is done.
