I'm having difficulty coming up with characteristics for Shifters. If anyone has any ideas, maybe you could help me out? After all, making an entirely new sub-soecies here, which is difficult at the best of times.

The thing with shifters is that they are similar to changelings, taking up different forms and such, and the only way to find out their identity is to look at their eyes and magic. I feel that for someone who wouldn't know wht a shifter is and how to find one, I feel shifters are a bit of a Mary Sue/OP, etc. I would suggest that it would be a bit easier to make them more detectable. For example, with changelings, they would always have green eyes and magic, even if the one that they are imitating didn't have that, which can raise suspicion, making them less OP.
tl;dr Try and find other ways to make them less OP, but it's a great idea

How about this? Shifters revert back to their original form when they are under great amounts of stress, and can only hold a form for a limited time. However, with training (like with other magic) this time period can be increased.
-
Also, Shifters are most talented at using a form of the same race to their original birth form. For example, a Pegasus born Shifter would be better at flying than using magic and strength.[/li][/list]

Choc, you know I have nothing against you personally. I think it's a neat idea, and I'm always happy to support someone's dream OC. But there's something I've wanted to know since the very first time I read your bio. Why? Why do you feel it's necessary to create a new species? I mean, I just don't get it. For instance, a changeling who underwent a magic mutation could have all the same abilities and traits, except the difference is it wouldn't confuse us, it wouldn't create unnecessary complexity, and it's basically believable in the show's canon. So... Why?

That's pretty good, having them forcibly change when under stress, I support this :)

I did contemplate making Choc a changeling, but I wanted my OC's to be unique.

I mean, I guess. But.. I dunno it seems pointless

I always encourage the creation of new ideas and species. On another site I am on, there are a ton of dragon OC's making up their own species and kinds of dragons and the people there seem to really enjoy creating them. It brings more creativity and chances of making your own thing. Sometimes people don't want a mold to follow and want to create their own idea from scratch.
